Destiny 2’s Epic Finale: The Final Shape Sets New Summer Release

Exploring the Extended Road to Destiny 2's The Final Shape and the Exciting Content Leading Up to Its Release.

The eagerly anticipated expansion of Destiny 2, “The Final Shape,” which promises to be the grand finale of the game’s first decade of storytelling, has had its release date shifted to June 2024. This delay, while extending the wait for fans, also brings an array of fresh content and features to keep the game’s vibrant community engaged.

Originally scheduled for release at the end of February 2024, “The Final Shape” will now make its debut on June 4th, 2024. This change in timeline has been attributed to several factors, including recent reports of game delays contributing to layoffs at Bungie, the studio behind Destiny 2, now under Sony ownership.

Alongside “The Final Shape,” Bungie has also reportedly postponed the revival of the classic nineties shooter, Marathon, to 2025, though this remains unconfirmed.

Bungie describes “The Final Shape” as the “culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling.” To bridge the gap created by this delay, Bungie has extended the upcoming “Season of the Wish,” set to launch tomorrow, right up to the new release date for the expansion. This extended season is designed to maintain player engagement and anticipation for the forthcoming climax of Destiny 2’s narrative journey.

In place of the delayed expansion, Bungie is introducing several new elements. These include progression-based weekly quests called Wishes, and Moments of Triumph rewards coming in February.

Furthermore, the annual class-on-class PvP event, Guardian Games, is now scheduled for March, followed by a significant update titled “Into the Light” in April. This series of content updates is aimed at preparing players for their Guardian’s forthcoming journey.

May will see the addition of three new PvP maps, leading up to the launch of “The Final Shape.” Bungie has expressed their commitment to ensuring that “The Final Shape” meets their vision and the high expectations of their community, justifying the need for additional development time.

In April, players can anticipate new gameplay revelations from “The Final Shape,” offering a glimpse into what the future holds for this beloved franchise.
