As January 2024 approaches, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service is set for a significant update in its lineup. This change will see the addition of several eagerly anticipated titles and the departure of some existing ones, reshaping the service’s offerings for its audience.

The start of the new year brings with it a slew of fresh content, headlined by the HBO Original drama series “True Detective: Night Country,” premiering on January 14. This gripping series, set in the frigid landscape of Ennis, Alaska, follows detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) as they delve into a mysterious disappearance at a research station. Created by Issa López, who also directs all episodes, this series is poised to captivate audiences with its chilling narrative.

Another major addition is the original series “On the Roam,” debuting on January 18. This cinematic documentary series trails actor Jason Momoa across the country in pursuit of art, adventure, and friendship, emphasizing craftsmanship. With two episodes releasing weekly, this series culminates in a season finale on February 8.

Max’s original series “Sort of” returns for its third and final season on January 18. The season sees protagonist Sabi (Bilal Baig) grappling with personal grief and newfound freedom, exploring themes of identity and life-changing decisions.

“The HBO Original “Real Time With Bill Maher” is back for its 22nd season on January 19, continuing its tradition of sharp commentary and engaging discussions.

The much-anticipated season seven of “Rick and Morty” returns on January 22, promising more intergalactic escapades and humor. This Adult Swim series has already garnered critical acclaim, including Emmy wins, and its latest season is expected to be no less exciting.

On January 8, the HBO Original documentary “Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project” will premiere. This film explores the life and influence of poet and social commentator Nikki Giovanni through a blend of intimate vérité, archival footage, and creative visual interpretations of her poetry.

As new titles make their way into Max’s catalog, several others will be leaving. Notable departures include “The Nun” on January 5, “Horrible Bosses 2” and “Miracle Workers” (Seasons 1-3) on January 9, “Blended” on January 11, and “Barbarian” on January 24. The end of the month will see a significant number of titles leaving, including “(500) Days of Summer,” “Angel of Mine,” “Anna,” “Annie Hall,” and many others on January 31.

January 2024 promises to be a month of transformation for Max, offering a diverse array of new content for subscribers while also saying goodbye to several beloved titles.
