Mortal Kombat 1 Takes Multiplayer to the Next Level with Cross-Play

NetherRealm Studios Brings Cross-Play, Wi-Fi Filter Support, and Character Enhancements to Mortal Kombat 1 in Early 2024.

The classic fighting game, Mortal Kombat 1, is poised to break new ground early next year with the introduction of cross-play support, a much-anticipated feature that will enable players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S to compete against each other. This update, revealed during a recent NetherRealm Studios livestream, is a significant leap forward, bringing together a diverse gaming community.

Scheduled for February 2024, the cross-play support is a response to fan requests and an evolution in the game’s multiplayer experience. While it was initially announced that this feature wouldn’t be included in the reboot’s launch, NetherRealm Studios is now set to deliver on their promise. This update will exclude Nintendo Switch players, but it still marks a major step in bridging the gap between different gaming platforms, allowing friends and competitors to engage in battles, regardless of their chosen console.

Enhanced Multiplayer Experience with Wi-Fi Filter Support

Another significant update in the pipeline is the introduction of Wi-Fi filter support. This feature is particularly crucial for the Mortal Kombat 1 multiplayer community. It gives players the ability to decline matches based on another user’s internet connection quality, thereby reducing the frustration of laggy or interrupted gameplay. This enhancement shows NetherRealm’s commitment to providing a seamless and enjoyable gaming experience.

NetherRealm Studios is also preparing to release detailed patch notes for Mortal Kombat 1’s latest update. According to Community Manager Tyler Lansdown, these updates focus on improving the overall gameplay experience. They include quality-of-life changes and specific adjustments to characters like Kano, Sonya Blade, and Kung Lao. These tweaks aim to balance gameplay, ensuring a fair and exciting experience for all players.
