Paper Mario Remake Rated E: A Return to the Thousand-Year Door

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake Inches Closer to Release with ESRB Rating.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Nintendo fans have a reason to be excited as the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has officially rated the remake of “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.” The beloved RPG, originally released in 2004, is making a comeback with a visually enhanced version for the Nintendo Switch.

As discovered by members of the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” remake has been rated E for Everyone. This rating reflects the game’s mild fantasy violence and mild suggestive themes.

In line with the game’s playful and imaginative style, players will engage in turn-based combat against whimsical paper creatures, using various attacks like boot stomps, hammer strikes, and fireballs. These encounters are depicted in a cartoony manner, with enemies typically vanishing into stars and coins upon defeat.

The rating also notes some flirtatious dialogue and characters with exaggerated designs, aligning with the game’s lighthearted and humorous approach. The appearance of the game on the ESRB website has heightened fan speculation that Nintendo might release the RPG earlier than expected.

While an official release date hasn’t been announced, the ESRB rating is often one of the final steps before a game’s launch, suggesting that the release could be imminent.

“Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” is a continuation of the unique paper origami style introduced in the original Nintendo 64 game. The series is known for its expansive stories, charming characters, and innovative gameplay that combines RPG elements with puzzle-solving.

This remake follows the release of “Super Mario RPG” last month, to which the “Paper Mario” series is considered a spiritual successor. Additionally, the original N64 “Paper Mario” game is available on Nintendo Switch Online, allowing fans to revisit the series’ roots.
