Pocketpair, the developer of the popular game Palworld, has issued a stark warning to its fan base about counterfeit mobile phone games masquerading as the official Palworld app. This caution comes amidst the soaring success of Palworld, which has not only captivated gamers worldwide but also sparked controversy and imitation.

In a recent tweet, Pocketpair stated unequivocally, “there is no Palworld application for phones.” This clarification became necessary after the discovery of several fraudulent apps on major platforms like the App Store and Google Play. These apps were using the name and imagery of Palworld, misleading users into believing they were downloading a legitimate version of the game for mobile devices.

The developers emphasized that these imitation apps have no affiliation with their company. They further cautioned that downloading these counterfeit apps poses significant risks, including the potential leakage of personal information stored on smartphones and susceptibility to fraud. Pocketpair has reported this issue to Apple and Google, the operators of the App Store and Google Play, respectively, in a bid to curb the spread of these fake applications.

Palworld’s popularity is undoubted, with the game achieving a remarkable feat of eight million sales within six days of its early access launch on PC via Steam and Xbox. Its success, however, has not come without its share of controversy. Palworld has been at the center of a heated debate over allegations of being a “Pokémon rip-off,” a claim firmly denied by Pocketpair.

The situation escalated with the developers receiving death threats and Nintendo taking swift action to remove a notable Pokémon mod. The Pokémon Company has also expressed its intent to investigate and address any acts infringing on its intellectual property rights.

Despite these challenges, Palworld’s appeal remains strong. On Steam, it reached the status of the second most-played game in the platform’s history, signaling its immense popularity and the high level of engagement from its player base.
