Half Mermaid Productions is set to expand the reach of its critically acclaimed interactive movie trilogy, “Immortality,” to PlayStation 5 gamers on January 23. This follows the game’s successful launch in 2022 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and mobile platforms.

“Immortality” is centered around the enigmatic figure of Marissa Marcel, an actress who seemingly vanished from the public eye. Marcel starred in three films – “Ambrosio” (1968), “Minsky” (1970), and “Two of Everything” (1999) – none of which were ever released. Players are tasked with unraveling the mystery of her disappearance by exploring these lost films.

The game employs a ‘match cut’ feature that allows players to navigate through the footage using cinematic language, offering a unique storytelling approach. This mechanic, coupled with point-and-click gameplay and choice-based consequences, creates a rich, dramatic narrative experience. The players’ journey through the game reveals the intertwining stories of Marcel’s life and work, piecing together the puzzle of her enigmatic existence.

The PlayStation 5 version of “Immortality” brings new dimensions to the game with the restoration of all three of Marcel’s movies and their extensive footage. The PS5’s advanced haptic feedback and controller speaker features are set to enhance the virtual moviola experience, offering a more immersive gameplay. Additionally, players can aim to achieve a Platinum Trophy, adding an extra layer of challenge and achievement to the game.

“Immortality” has garnered significant acclaim in the gaming world. It won Best Narrative at the BAFTA 2023 and received a nomination for Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022. Manon Gage, who portrays Marissa Marcel, was recognized as Best Performer at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022 and received a nomination at The Game Awards 2022.

Director Sam Barlow, known for his innovative work in interactive cinematic games such as “Her Story,” “Telling Lies,” and “Silent Hill: Shattered Memories,” expressed his excitement about bringing “Immortality” to PlayStation gamers. Barlow’s goal of sharing Marissa Marcel’s life and work with a broad audience aligns perfectly with the game’s expansion to the PlayStation platform, promising to captivate a new segment of gamers with its intriguing narrative and cinematic depth.
