Steam Awards 2023: A Celebration of Gaming’s Best

User-Powered Recognition: Steam Awards Showcase Diverse Gaming Excellence in 2023.

Steam Awards 2023

The 2023 Steam Awards, powered by user votes and celebrating the year’s most outstanding games, have officially announced their winners. These awards, known for their diverse categories, provide a unique perspective on the gaming landscape, highlighting both mainstream successes and indie gems.

2023 proved to be an exceptional year for video games, with titles like “Baldur’s Gate 3” and “Alan Wake 2” receiving widespread acclaim and setting new standards in their respective genres. The Steam Awards, while differing in scale and scope from The Game Awards, offered a more user-centric approach to recognizing gaming excellence.

Unlike The Game Awards, which are decided by industry representatives, the Steam Awards are uniquely democratic, with regular Steam users casting their votes. This method ensures a diverse range of titles get the spotlight, including those that may not have the backing of big-budget marketing campaigns.

The Winners Take It All

“Baldur’s Gate 3” emerged as the Game of the Year, a choice that aligns with its success at other award shows, including six wins at The Game Awards 2023. This title was lauded for its incredible depth, player freedom, and detailed world-building. Other notable winners included “Labyrinthine” as the VR Game of the Year and “Red Dead Redemption 2,” which took home the Labor of Love award, showcasing its enduring appeal and ongoing support from its developers.

“Hogwarts Legacy” claimed the Best Game on Steam Deck award, reflecting the platform’s growing importance in the gaming ecosystem. “Lethal Company” won the Better With Friends award, a testament to its engaging multiplayer experience, while “Atomic Heart” was recognized for its Outstanding Visual Style.

The awards also highlighted “Starfield” for Most Innovative Gameplay, “Sifu” as the Best Game You Suck At, and “The Last of Us Part 1” for Best Soundtrack. “Baldur’s Gate 3” also clinched the Outstanding Story-Rich Game award, further solidifying its critical acclaim.

“Dave The Diver” won the Sit Back and Relax award, offering players a more laid-back gaming experience.

A Diverse Gaming Landscape

The Steam Awards’ user-voting system allows for a broader range of games to be recognized, including lower-budget titles. This was evident in the success of “Lethal Company,” which combined humor, unique art style, and innovative gameplay to capture the hearts of players, reaching impressive concurrent player numbers on Steam.

2023 was marked as one of the best years in gaming history, with a record number of games scoring 90 or higher on Metacritic. However, it’s noteworthy that console exclusives like “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” were not eligible for the Steam Awards, focusing the spotlight on PC and Steam Deck titles.
