Beef Set to Return for Highly Anticipated Second Season on Netflix

New Episodes Bring New Stars and Storylines to Critically Adored Series.

After much speculation, it appears that the critically acclaimed limited series Beef will be back for a second season on Netflix. According to sources close to the production, creator and showrunner Lee Sung Jin has been developing scripts and storylines for a potential Season 2 over the past several months.

Though the first season of Beef was originally promoted as a limited series and had a fairly conclusive ending, the massive success of the show seems to have paved the way for its continuation.

Season 1 of Beef centered on the contentious relationship between two unhappy couples following a fateful road rage encounter. It provided a humorous yet poignant examination of feelings of hopelessness and depression through the lens of cultural norms. The show was lauded for its writing and nuanced performances, nabbing a number of accolades including 8 Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globes. Stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong gained widespread praise for their lead roles.

According to reports, Season 2 will shift the focus to explore the dynamic between two different feuding couples. The new episodes aim to put a fresh spin on the core concept that made the first season so compelling. Though specific story details remain tightly under wraps, the scripts are said to either be completed or close to completion.

Netflix and production company A24 have their sights set on some A-list talent to headline Season 2. Names currently in the mix include Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, Charles Melton and Cailee Spaney. While no deals have officially been finalized yet, these actors would make up quite the impressive ensemble if cast.

Hathaway and Gyllenhaal have demonstrated fantastic on-screen chemistry before in 2010’s Love & Other Drugs, so their involvement would surely excite fans. Melton has been generating buzz for his turn in Netflix’s May December, while Spaney caught attention with her role as Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola’s biopic Priscilla. Both of these rising talents already have established relationships with Netflix and A24 that could make for a seamless transition to Beef.
