Domingo Waiting in the Wings as Kang’s MCU Future Unclear

The actor opens up about longstanding Marvel talks amidst uncertainty around Jonathan Majors' future as iconic villain.

With the future of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror in question following assault allegations, actor Colman Domingo has addressed rumors that he could take over the iconic Marvel role.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Fear the Walking Dead star confirmed that he has been in talks with Marvel Studios for years about potentially joining their cinematic universe. However, he cautioned that discussions are often exploratory and may not lead to concrete offers.

“My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspect of the MCU for years,” Domingo revealed. “Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know. I feel like my team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real.”

Rumors connecting Domingo to the role of Kang began swirling after Jonathan Majors was charged with third-degree assault and harassment in late 2023. With the antagonist expected to be a key figure in upcoming Marvel films, his removal from the franchise left a major void.

Marvel has reportedly begun reworking scripts to write out or minimize Kang’s presence. But the studio remains tight-lipped about potential recasting, leaving fans to speculate about who could take over as the time-traveling conqueror.

As an established star known for projects like Euphoria, Fear the Walking Dead, and Rustin, Domingo would bring gravitas and talent to the blockbuster role. And while rumors are just that for now, the actor seems receptive to the possibilities.

“I would welcome a conversation around it,” Domingo said, while clarifying that no official offer was on the table. “Whatever they’re working out with Jonathan and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane.”

For now, Marvel remains focused on completing Kang’s story in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, set for release in February 2023. But further shakeups likely lie ahead as the studio charts a new path forward for Phase 5 and beyond.
