Matthew Vaughn Teases Future of Argylle with Henry Cavill

Director Matthew Vaughn's Vision for the Argylle Franchise and Beyond.

Matthew Vaughn, the acclaimed director known for his dynamic storytelling, has unveiled exciting plans for the ‘Argylle‘ franchise, headlined by none other than Henry Cavill.

Cavill, stepping into the role of a superspy, marks a significant move in his already illustrious career. Based on a series of novels by the enigmatic writer Elly Conway, ‘Argylle’ is set to redefine the spy genre, with Cavill at the forefront.

Sequels in the Spy-scope

Earlier this year, in an interview with Total Film, Vaughn disclosed ambitious plans for not one, but two sequels to his latest action-packed venture. The first sequel is poised to delve into the backstory of how Argylle becomes a seasoned spy, setting the stage for what Vaughn describes as “a proper Argylle movie” in the subsequent installment. Cavill’s enthusiasm for the role is palpable, adding an extra layer of anticipation for the sequels.

However, the future of these films hinges on the success of the first ‘Argylle’ movie. Speaking on the Inside Total Film podcast and GamesRadar+, Vaughn emphasized the contingent nature of these sequels.

He metaphorically alluded to not counting chickens before they hatch, indicating that the production of further movies relies heavily on public reception. “If they give us a thumbs up, we will give them another one,” he stated, underscoring the audience’s role in shaping the franchise’s destiny.

A Star-Studded Ensemble and a Packed Slate for Vaughn

‘Argylle’ boasts an impressive cast, featuring the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, and Dua Lipa, alongside Cavill. This ensemble brings a diverse array of talent to the film, which is already making waves in UK cinemas and set to debut in the US on February 2.

Vaughn’s schedule, however, is brimming with other major projects. He hinted at a busy period ahead, with plans for a ‘Kick-Ass’ reboot, an intriguing musical venture, and the eagerly awaited ‘Kingsman 3’. His remark, “we’ve been polishing our weapons; we’re now ready to start firing,” signals a thrilling phase in his filmmaking career.
