The Ones Who Live Hints at Morgan Crossover with Rick

Premiere episode contains references to Morgan's past, fueling speculation of his return.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

The new Walking Dead spinoff series, The Ones Who Live, may be setting the stage for a crossover with fan favorite character Morgan Jones.

In the premiere episode, attentive viewers noticed a couple of Easter eggs that suggest Morgan’s story could again intersect with Rick Grimes. These include a specific book and references to past events tied to Morgan.

One of the books Rick Grimes receives from his ally Donald is The Art of Peace by Morihei Ueshiba, which teaches the philosophy of aikido. This same book was previously shown to have great significance for Morgan during his arc in The Walking Dead. After losing his way, the teachings in it set him on a new pacifist path.

Is Morgan Headed for The Walking Dead Spinoff?

The Ones Who Live’s opening credits also mention the nuclear attack on Texas that played a major role in Morgan’s time on Fear the Walking Dead. And when Morgan left that show, he declared he was going to “come and look” for Rick.

With these connections to Morgan’s journey, it appears the spinoff could be laying the groundwork for the character, played by Lennie James, to eventually find Rick again. Showrunner Scott Gimple has said characters from the wider Walking Dead universe may pop up.

A Morgan return would be welcomed by many fans who see him as an integral part of Rick’s life. Their bromance stretched back to the early seasons of The Walking Dead when a mentally unstable Morgan first encountered Rick.

Spinoff Drops Clues to Morgan Reunion with Rick Grimes

After regaining his sanity thanks to the book of teachings, Morgan’s fate became intertwined with other communities like Fear’s before vowing to track down his old friend. Now The Ones Who Live seems to be drawing them together again.

With Rick still held captive inside the mysterious CRM group, he could surely use some support from his former partner in survival. If and when Morgan enters the story, it’s sure to be an emotional reunion for the apocalypse comrades.
