Poor Things

Yorgos Lanthimos’ absurdist comic drama “Poor Things” is set to bring its unique sensibilities to the small screen. The highly acclaimed film will make its streaming debut on Hulu on March 7, giving wider audiences a chance to experience its surreal visuals and celebrated performances.

“Poor Things” stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a woman with the mind of an infant after being resurrected by a mad scientist, played by Willem Dafoe. As Bella discovers the world, she embarks on a series of wild adventures and exploits, often involving her co-star Mark Ruffalo.

Lanthimos, known for unconventional films like “The Lobster” and “The Favourite,” imbues “Poor Things” with his trademark quirky style. The film features highly imaginative cinematography and production design that create a distorted, dreamlike atmosphere.

“Poor Things” earned 11 Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture and directing for Lanthimos. While it’s not favored to win the top awards, its craft and performances could be recognized in categories like Makeup, Visual Effects and Supporting Actor for Ruffalo. Stone already won a BAFTA for her bizarre lead role.

For audiences without access to theaters, Hulu will offer the first streaming home for Lanthimos’ singular vision. The film provides eye-popping visuals and A-list star power to the platform. Viewers looking for something truly unique and wonderfully weird should not miss the streaming premiere of “Poor Things.”
