Miyazaki Responds to Bloodborne PS5 Remake Calls, But It’s Sony’s Call

The director appreciates fans' passion but says any remake possibility resides solely with Sony.

Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki has responded to the intense fan demand for a PS5 remake, voicing appreciation for players’ passion while remaining noncommittal on the possibility.

In an interview with IGN discussing the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Miyazaki addressed the overwhelming calls from fans for a modernized Bloodborne remaster. However, he clarified that as a licensed PlayStation exclusive, the IP rights belong solely to Sony.

“Unfortunately, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically,” Miyazaki explained. “We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware.”

While declining to comment directly on rumors of a remake, Miyazaki reminisced fondly on the original project. “For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game,” he shared.

In a separate Eurogamer interview, Miyazaki acknowledged the potential benefits of bringing Bloodborne to newer hardware. Enhanced graphics, rendering, and expanded accessibility were cited as driving forces behind remakes on new platforms.

“I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games,” Miyazaki said. “And so I think that accessibility is important.”

However, Miyazaki stopped short of stoking hopes for an official remake announcement. With IP ownership belonging to Sony, any decision to revisit Yharnam would rest exclusively with the PlayStation makers.

Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware now controls following a trademark transfer from publisher Bandai Namco, Bloodborne remains entirely under Sony’s authority.

For now, Bloodborne diehards will have to content themselves with spiritual successors like Elden Ring. But Miyazaki’s comments signal an empathy with fan demands, even if a PS5 remake isn’t his call to make. With nearly 10 million copies sold on PS4, the fervent fanbase holds out hope that Sony may someday revisit this beloved FromSoftware gem.
