“The Acolyte” Brings New Chapter of Star Wars to Disney+ on June 4

The new live-action Star Wars series, set a century before the prequel trilogy, will premiere on Disney+ in early June.

Star Wars fans can mark their calendars as Disney+ has officially announced the premiere date for the highly anticipated live-action series “The Acolyte.” The new chapter in the iconic sci-fi saga will debut on the streaming platform on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Developed by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, “The Acolyte” is set approximately 100 years before the events of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” delving into the final days of the High Republic era. The series promises to explore the emergence of dark forces that would eventually lead to the rise of the Sith and the fall of the Jedi Order.

The story follows a former Padawan named Luri (played by Amandla Stenberg), who reunites with her Jedi Master, Lan Tomori (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae from “Squid Game”). Together, they embark on a quest to investigate a series of mysterious and sinister crimes spreading across the galaxy. However, their investigation uncovers a threat more profound and dangerous than they could have imagined.

In addition to Stenberg and Jung-jae, the ensemble cast boasts an impressive lineup of talent, including Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”), Manny Jacinto (“The Good Place”), Dafne Keen (“His Dark Materials”), Dean-Charles Chapman (“Game of Thrones”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), and Rebecca Henderson (“Russian Doll”).

Lucasfilm unveiled the first poster for “The Acolyte” yesterday, featuring a striking image of a lightsaber leaving a trail of blood, accompanied by the ominous tagline: “In an age of light, a darkness rises.” This chilling visual teaser has only heightened the anticipation among Star Wars enthusiasts, who have been eagerly awaiting a glimpse into this unexplored era of the franchise.

While plot details remain closely guarded, “The Acolyte” is expected to shed light on the origins of the dark side of the Force and the events that precipitated the eventual fall of the Jedi Order, as depicted in the prequel trilogy. The series promises to deliver a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on the Star Wars mythology, exploring themes of power, corruption, and the eternal struggle between light and dark.

With the release date now set, fans can brace themselves for a deeper dive into the Star Wars universe, as “The Acolyte” aims to captivate audiences with its unique storytelling and exploration of the galaxy’s turbulent past.
