Keanu Reeves to Voice Anti-Hero Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3

The Iconic Action Star Takes on a New Iconic Role as the Edgy Hedgehog Experiment.

In a casting move that is sure to thrill both Sonic the Hedgehog fans and Keanu Reeves enthusiasts, it has been confirmed that the acclaimed actor will be lending his voice to the role of Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film.

Deadline first reported the news, stating that Paramount Pictures has tapped Reeves to portray the motorcycle-riding, time-manipulating anti-hero hedgehog in the third installment of the live-action Sonic franchise. While the studio has yet to officially comment on the casting, sources have verified the information to Deadline.

Reeves, known for his iconic roles in The Matrix, John Wick, and Speed, among others, is no stranger to the gaming world. The Canadian actor previously lent his talents to the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077, where he played the character of Johnny Silverhand. Now, he’s set to bring his unique blend of action and gravitas to the Sonic universe as Shadow, a character first introduced in the 2001 game Sonic Adventure 2.

In the video game canon, Shadow is a creation of Professor Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik. Possessing incredible speed and the ability to control chaos energy, Shadow was initially depicted as an antagonist to the blue blur before eventually becoming an uneasy ally. His edgy, brooding persona and motorcycle-riding habits make him the perfect foil to the jovial, sneaker-wearing Sonic.

Reeves will be joining a star-studded ensemble for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will see the return of Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, as well as James Marsden as the human ally Sheriff Tom Wachowski and Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Newcomers to the franchise include Krysten Ritter, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone.

Fans of the franchise have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of who would be voicing the iconic Shadow, and Reeves’ casting is sure to have them “living and learning” all the way to the premiere.

With Reeves’ proven action chops and ability to bring depth and complexity to his characters, Shadow is in good hands. Sonic fans can look forward to seeing the iconic actor bring the edgy hedgehog to life on the big screen next year.
