Tom Holland Teases Creative Involvement in Spider-Man 4, Confirms Desire to Continue Franchise

Actor says he'll "always want to do more" Spider-Man films as work begins behind the scenes.

Tom Holland has provided an encouraging update on Spider-Man 4, confirming his eagerness to continue playing the beloved web-slinger while also revealing he is creatively involved in the development of the next film at an earlier stage than before.

In a new interview at the Sands International Film Festival in Scotland, Holland definitively stated his commitment to the Spider-Man franchise that helped launched his career.

“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more,” the 26-year-old actor said.

However, Holland acknowledged the “complicated answer” involves carefully approaching a follow-up to 2021’s blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home in a fresh way that avoids retreading familiar territory.

“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect,” Holland explained. “The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”

What seems to have Holland particularly excited is his increased creative involvement compared to previous Spider-Man films under the Disney/Sony partnership.

“This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me,” he revealed.

Holland indicated the Spider-Man brain trust is committed to finding an inventive new direction, adding, “Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.”

While Spider-Man 4 is still in the earliest stages of development with no writer, director, or release timeline announced, Holland’s comments suggest positive momentum as he and the creative team work to craft a worthy follow-up. His clear enthusiasm about maintaining his iconic Marvel role is sure to excite fans as well.

The actor’s recent string of non-Spider-Man projects like The Crowded Room series also shows his range outside the Spider-suit. But based on his latest quotes, it seems Holland is just as determined as ever to protect the “legacy” of the beloved web-slinger while taking the character in an exciting new direction for the next film.
