The long-awaited medieval city-building strategy game, ‘Manor Lords,’ has reached an impressive milestone, surpassing 3 million wishlists on Steam just days before its highly anticipated Early Access release on April 26th. Developed by solo developer Greg Styczeń, also known as Slavic Magic, and published by Hooded Horse, the game has been generating substantial hype and interest among fans of the genre.

‘Manor Lords’ has been steadily gaining traction over the past year, reaching significant milestones by the week. The game’s demo alone, released in 2022, garnered over 500,000 wishlists, contributing to the game’s overall popularity. The surge in wishlists continued, with the game reaching 2.5 million wishlists just last week before crossing the 3 million mark over the weekend.

The game’s unique blend of city-building mechanics, survival features, and intense battles for territory has captivated the attention of players. In ‘Manor Lords,’ players are tasked with creating and building a medieval town from the ground up, upgrading and maintaining it to ensure its success. The complexity of the game shines through in various aspects, such as the need to manage resources and population effectively to prevent overpopulation and resource depletion.

Fraser Brown, a writer for Rock Paper Shotgun, had the opportunity to preview ‘Manor Lords’ earlier this month. In his words, “Manor Lords is a fetching city builder that lets you properly admire what you’ve built. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time walking around it as my noble, and even outside of that mode, you can go from looking at a map of every region right down to street-level seamlessly.”

While the level of hype surrounding ‘Manor Lords’ has been unprecedented, Slavic Magic has taken steps to manage expectations. In a recent Steam announcement, the developer clarified that while the game includes real-time battles, it should not be considered a direct competitor to the Total War series.

“It’s a city builder with battles,” Styczeń explained. “Yes, battles are there, but not as huge or as frequent as some of you might expect. The majority of gameplay is focused on city building and management.”

‘Manor Lords’ is set to launch into Early Access on April 26th and will be available on Steam, PC Game Pass, Epic Games, and GOG. As the release date approaches, the anticipation and excitement among fans continue to grow, fueled by the game’s impressive 3 million wishlists on Steam.
