The Warhammer 40K video game universe is expanding with the announcement of Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus 2 from developers Bulwark Studios and publisher Kasedo Games. Revealed at the 2024 Warhammer Skulls Showcase, the eagerly anticipated sequel to 2020’s turn-based tactical hit Mechanicus will introduce the Necrons as a fully playable faction alongside the returning Adeptus Mechanicus.
In a shocking turn of events, the ancient Necrons have awoken from their millennia-long slumber to confront the Adeptus Mechanicus forces that have invaded their tomb world. Players will experience the epic conflict through two separate narrative campaigns, each providing a unique perspective on the escalating war.
“After millennia of slumber, Vargard Nefershah mobilizes her dynasty’s legions to annihilate the Adeptus Mechanicus interlopers who unknowingly settled upon her world,” reads the game’s description. “Across the galaxy, Magos Dominus Faustinius is summoned to bring his hard-won expertise to bear and ensure the Necrons do not succeed.”
The addition of the Necrons as a fully playable faction promises to shake up the strategic gameplay that made the original Mechanicus a critical success. While the Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priests will need to carefully plan their movements and utilize cover effectively, the Necrons will be masters of destroying terrain to gain the upper hand.
Environmental mechanics and expanded unit selections for each faction will further deepen the tactical options available to players. Veteran author Ben Counter, known for his Black Library Warhammer 40K novels, returns to weave an epic narrative replete with player choices that shape the climactic events.
Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus 2 will immerse players in the grim darkness of the far future with awe-inspiring music and audio design by critically acclaimed composer Guillaume David.
The turn-based tactical sequel is set to launch on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. While no firm release date has been announced, eager fans can already wishlist the game in anticipation of further updates.
With the Necrons joining the fray, Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus 2 promises to deliver an even more intense and narratively rich experience for fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise.
