Disney Channel’s popular comedy series “Wizards of Waverly Place” is set for a revival with a new spinoff, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” and fans can expect to see some familiar faces. Selena Gomez, who starred as Alex Russo in the original series, has confirmed her involvement in the project, albeit in a limited capacity.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gomez expressed her excitement about the spinoff, stating, “It’s a show that means a lot to me. I will be in the first episode. I’m executive producing it.” She added emotionally, “It brings me to tears because that is the beginning of where I started. And to honor it in this way has truly been a blast, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”

While Gomez will only appear in the pilot episode, her involvement as an executive producer alongside David Henrie, who played her on-screen brother Justin Russo, ensures a connection to the original series’ spirit.

The spinoff, created by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, will center on Justin Russo’s adult life. Henrie will reprise his role as Justin, now married to Giada (played by Mimi Gianopulos) with two sons, Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko).

In addition to Gomez and Henrie, David DeLuise is set to return as Jerry Russo, Justin’s father. Henrie shared his enthusiasm about reuniting with his TV dad, telling Us Weekly, “It was a joy. And we hope to have everyone back throughout the lifetime of the show, and if it’s up to me, as often as possible ’cause they’re just such a wonderful addition.”

There are also hints that other original cast members may make appearances. DeLuise previously suggested that Maria Canals-Barrera, who played Theresa Russo, might also return to the show.

“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” aims to capture the magic of the original series while introducing new storylines and characters. The show will follow Justin as he balances his adult responsibilities with his magical heritage, potentially introducing a new generation to the beloved Wizards universe.

As production continues, fans eagerly anticipate more announcements about returning cast members and plot details. With the involvement of key original cast members and creators, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” is poised to blend nostalgia with fresh storytelling for both longtime fans and new viewers alike.
