The surprise indie hit Balatro is going all-in with a stacked physical edition release planned for later this year. Developer LocalThunk and publisher PlayStack have announced that special retail versions of the poker-inspired roguelike deck-builder are in the works for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
While digital versions have allowed Balatro to become a cult classic since its 2024 launch, the upcoming physical releases will give fans a new way to collect and experience the unique card game. Each physical edition will include an exclusive bonus – a special booster pack containing 10 unique, new Joker cards not found in the base game.
In Balatro, players combine traditional poker hands with powerful special “Joker” cards that provide unique gameplay abilities and bonuses. Building smart synergies between these two card types is key to surviving runs against escalating blind opponents and securing lucrative rewards.

The physical editions promise to elevate this compelling gameplay loop with their booster pack extras. The 10 new bonus Joker cards can bolster players’ decks and strategies with fresh new abilities to incorporate.
Beyond the special cards, the retail versions will bring Balatro’s full genre-blending experience to physical form for $29.99. The acclaimed indie gem blends roguelike deckbuilding with poker fundamentals, featuring 150 unique Jokers, 15 distinct decks with modifiers, bonus hidden hands to discover, and much more packed into its simple but highly replayable format.

Since launching as a solo project, Balatro has managed to captivate audiences with its unlikely melding of poker gameplay with roguelike progression. Now with physical editions that literally deal out extra content, the cult classic should find an even wider audience of card gamers looking to ante up.
Pre-orders for the Balatro physical editions across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S will open soon ahead of their expected 2024 release.
