BioWare Reveals Fall 2024 Launch for Dragon Age: The Veilguard After Decade-Long Development

BioWare's Epic RPG Sequel Introduces New Companions, Returns to Single-Player Roots

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Fans have been yearning for the next chapter in BioWare’s acclaimed Dragon Age fantasy RPG series for nearly 10 years. That agonizing wait is finally nearing its end, as the developers unveiled Dragon Age: The Veilguard with a targeted fall 2024 release window during the recent Xbox Games Showcase.

The Veilguard, previously known as Dreadwolf until a recent name change, has had a tumultuous development cycle plagued by reboots and delays since work first began after 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition. Despite the lengthy gestation period, BioWare is readying the single-player RPG for launch on PC and Xbox consoles in just a few months.

“Rally a team of seven companions, each with rich lives and deep backstories,” teased BioWare about the upcoming adventure. Among the eclectic crew are familiar faces like Varric the dwarven rogue and Scout Harding, joined by new allies including an assassin, necromancer, and detective.

While story details remain scarce, the latest teaser trailer hints at the party banding together to confront ancient evils like demons, dragons, and even gods. Players will decide which comrades to bring into each battle, leveraging their unique abilities and forging personal connections.

“These are characters to befriend, and even fall in love with,” promises BioWare, emphasizing the highly interactive and intimate storytelling that is a hallmark of the Dragon Age franchise.

After previously exploring a revamped multiplayer-focused approach, the developers have reaffirmed The Veilguard is “straight-up single-player story goodness” that returns the series to its acclaimed RPG roots first established in origins like Dragon Age: Origins.

An extended 15-minute gameplay reveal is slated for June 11, finally pulling back the curtain on this long-awaited fantasy epic after years of shadows and secrecy. Fans should prepare for an immersive, character-driven tale when The Veilguard officially launches this fall.
