Final Fantasy XIV Welcomes Back Dragon Quest X Crossover Event

Limited-time 'Breaking Brick Mountains' quest brings exclusive Dragon Quest rewards and homages to FFXIV

Dragon Quest X

Adventure awaits Final Fantasy XIV players once again in the world of Dragon Quest, as the popular “Breaking Brick Mountains” crossover event makes its return on June 5th. The limited-time collaborative quest, first introduced in 2014, allows gamers to earn exclusive rewards inspired by the iconic Dragon Quest franchise.

To kick off the event, players must speak with the NPC Havak Alvak in northern Ul’dah. He will reveal the locations of special FATEs (Full Active Time Events) tied to the crossover content. Completing these battles will unlock unique prize opportunities.

One highly coveted item is the King Slime Crown headpiece, modeled after the familiar blue slime enemies from Dragon Quest. This regal helm can be purchased from the vendor Toughie, also found in northern Ul’dah during the event period.

But the rewards don’t stop there. The main “Breaking Brick Mountains” questline will grant players the Thug’s Mug weapon skin and a Wind-Up Brickman minion, based on the golem-like creatures from Dragon Quest’s monster bestiary.

For veterans who experienced this crossover event in previous years, there’s no need to start from scratch. Players can pick up where they left off originally or choose to reset their progress and replay the quest campaign fresh. However, duplicate reward claims are not permitted.

The return of “Breaking Brick Mountains” is just one of several exciting updates for Final Fantasy XIV fans. Square Enix recently released physical and digital vinyl editions of the “Dawntrail” theme song. The iconic melody can now soundtrack adventures in pristine analog audio quality.

Commemorating over a decade of service, the crossover event runs through June 20th, giving players nearly two weeks to immerse themselves in this celebration of two legendary RPG franchises. Eorzea’s heroes would be wise to stretch their adventuring muscles for the return of the iconic Dragon Quest spirit.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The “Breaking Brick Mountains” event begins June 5th.
