From Gears to CoD, Xbox Unveils Huge Co-Op Experiences for 2024/2025

Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Diablo IV Expansion Among Upcoming Multiplayer Titles

2024 Xbox Games Showcase

While Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2024 spanned an incredibly diverse lineup of titles, some of the biggest cheers were reserved for the array of cooperative multiplayer games taking center stage. From hotly anticipated new installments in juggernaut franchises to expansions for live-service hits, Xbox laid out an impressive roadmap of upcoming co-op experiences.

Kicking off the multiplayer highlights was the first footage from Gears of War: E-Day, the sixth mainline entry in the iconic third-person shooter series. The brutally intense gameplay trailer showcased squads of COG soldiers battling the Locust horde amid a crumbling, wartorn world, hinting at the series’ signature blend of visceral action and squadmate camaraderie. No release date was provided, but E-Day looks primed to continue Gears’ legacy as a premier co-op experience.

Another heavy hitter was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from Activision, setting a October 25th, 2024 release date for the inevitably blockbuster shooter. While light on details, Black Ops 6 is unsurprisingly expected to include a full suite of cooperative gameplay modes alongside the franchise’s staple competitive multiplayer and single-player campaigns. The title will hit the ground running as a day one inclusion on Xbox Game Pass.

On the live service front, several marquee titles received major new expansions and content updates. Fallout 76’s “Skyline Valley” DLC will let players create and experience life as a ghoul inhabitant of Appalachia when it launches on June 12th. Diablo IV’s “Vessel of Hatred” expansion arrives October 8th packed with a new character class, region, and story content. And World of Warcraft’s “The War Within” chapter ushers in a new saga for the long-running MMORPG on August 26th.

Several other fan-favorite cooperative franchises made welcome appearances, including Age of Mythology Retold (September 4th), Sea of Thieves Season 13 (July 25th), and The Elder Scrolls Online’s “Gold Road” expansion (June 18th). Newcomers like the squad-based FragPunk and Mecha Break’s mech battle royale showcase Xbox’s commitment to fresh multiplayer concepts as well.

While many of the games lack concrete release dates, the abundance of major co-op titles like Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and high-profile expansions for established hits indicates Xbox is doubling down on cooperative gameplay for 2024 and beyond. Fans of teaming up with friends have an embarrassment of multiplayer riches to look forward to on Microsoft’s gaming platforms.
