New City-Building Pirate Utopia Game ‘Republic of Pirates’ Sets Sail

New Strategy Game Blends City-Building and Naval Combat in Open Caribbean

Republic of Pirates

Weary of landlubber city-builders constraining your horizons to a single plot? A new game invites you to construct your own lawless pirate paradise across the open Caribbean while commanding battleships to plunder rival settlements.

Republic of Pirates, launching today on Steam, blends city-building strategy with real-time naval combat and free-roaming exploration. As the self-appointed leader of the pirating lifestyle, players must develop a safe haven capable of housing their ever-growing fleet while strategically expanding their reign of terror.

“In Republic of Pirates, you’re in charge of creating a pirate utopia, a place where all sea dogs can live in freedom, plundering and looting to their heart’s content,” describes the game’s store page. “As well as developing your island in this city-building game, you’ll also be able to engage in RTS naval battles that will allow you to explore the Caribbean archipelago, conquer territories, capture merchant vessels, and defeat rival factions.”

Beyond simply constructing the requisite buildings and infrastructure, running a successful pirate colony requires deft maritime combat tactics and delicate political maneuvering. Republic of Pirates arms players with eight distinct ship classes to command during real-time sea battles for capturing loot and destroying enemies.

It also incorporates diplomacy and trade negotiations with outside merchant factions that can turn to alliances or vendettas based on your actions. Structured missions dispensed by trading companies may task you with attacking settlements, hunting bounties, or securing profitable trade routes.

“Ever-changing relationships with other pirate clans will become alliances or rivalries, and you’ll need to earn the favor of trading companies in order to ensure the proper supply of goods,” the description states.

Developed by the small Polish studio Crazy Goat Games and published by PQube, Republic of Pirates aims to let virtual buccaneers live out their pillaging power fantasies by controlling all aspects of growth for their maritime criminal empire across a promised 30-hour campaign.

The game launches today on Steam for $22.49, a 10% discount off its regular $24.99 price during its first week of availability. For those preferring to first explore before buying, a free demo was available during the recent Steam Next Fest.
