Developers offer exclusive skin to early sign-ups as they prioritize game optimization and polish for September 9 launch

Saber Interactive has announced the cancellation of the planned public beta test for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, citing the need to focus on preparing for the game’s full launch. The highly anticipated sequel is set to release on September 9, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

In a statement posted on Steam, the development team explained their decision: “Space Marine 2 is almost ready. We are now entirely focused on optimization, polish and fixing remaining issues ahead of launch on September 9. This means we will not run a public online beta, as it would take the development teams away from preparing for the full launch, and our priority is to ensure the best possible experience at release.”

Acknowledging that this news might disappoint fans eager to get an early taste of the game, Saber Interactive has offered a consolation prize. Players who registered for the beta before June 28, 2024, at midnight Paris Time will receive a limited edition Bolt Pistol skin as a thank you for their interest and support.

The cancellation comes after a period of increased excitement surrounding the game, with Saber Interactive recently showcasing more of the upcoming shooter. Last month, they confirmed the inclusion of online co-op and provided a first look at the three-player co-op mode called Operations.

While the beta cancellation may be disappointing for some, it reflects the developer’s commitment to delivering a polished product at launch. The game, which continues the story of Ultramarines Space Marine Lieutenant Titus (now voiced by Clive Standen), was originally slated for a “winter” 2023 release but was delayed to ensure quality.

In related news, a leaked art book for Space Marine 2 has revealed that the game will include a PvP mode, adding to the anticipation for the title’s multiplayer offerings.

Despite the setback of the cancelled beta, fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe can take solace in knowing that the development team is dedicating all their efforts to create the “exceptional game you deserve.” With its September release date fast approaching, players won’t have to wait much longer to dive into the grim darkness of the far future.
