The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s Mysterious PC Port Delay

Insider Claims Highly Anticipated PC Version Has Been Ready for Months.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

While PlayStation fans have been able to experience the engrossing post-apocalyptic story of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered since its PS5 release in January, the game’s highly-anticipated PC version remains shrouded in mystery regarding its launch timeline. However, a new report from a reliable insider suggests the port has actually been complete for quite some time.

According to Dealabs user Billbil-kun, who has accurately leaked numerous game announcements in the past, sources indicate development on the PC version of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered wrapped up at least seven months ago in November 2023. The acclaimed survival horror sequel originally launched for PS4 in 2020 before receiving an enhanced remastered edition for PS5 this year.

So why haven’t PC gamers been able to get their hands on what VGC called “the best way to play one of the best games ever made?” Billbil-kun theorizes Sony could be strategically timing the PC release to coincide with the second season of HBO’s critically-acclaimed The Last of Us television adaptation, slated to premiere in 2025.

Such a move would align with Sony’s new release strategy of giving its major single-player PlayStation exclusives timed windows before eventually bringing them to PC. The original Last of Us game hit PC in March 2023, nearly a decade after its PS3 debut. Likewise, this month saw God of War: Ragnarok’s PC launch arrive nine months after the action-adventure epic released for PS5.

“Holding back the PC version could be a smart marketing play for Sony to drive immense hype around the game’s debut on that platform by tying it to the high-profile TV series,” said gaming analyst Michael Gardiner. “It would be mutually beneficial product promotion leveraging two hugely popular entertainment properties.”

Naughty Dog’s ability to immerse players in the gripping narrative and decayed world of The Last of Us has already inspired hordes of new fans through the HBO adaption’s first season. Whenever the PC port ultimately emerges from its protracted development, its arrival could very well be an unmissable multimedia event.

Of course, this is all just speculation for now based on Billbil-kun’s trusted track record. Sony has not provided an official release window for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PC. But if the port really has been finished since last November, that window could be opening sooner than later – regardless of whether it’s timed with the season two premiere.
