Disney+ Unveils ‘The Tyrant’: A High-Stakes Korean Thriller Set for August Release

Four-part series brings together top Korean talent for a story of scientific ambition and global intrigue

Disney+ has a new thriller from Korea coming this summer called “The Tyrant” that sounds epic! It’s about a secret project the South Korean government had to make a super virus that could boost their power in the world. But when US spies find out, things get crazy!

The show follows a group of rogue scientists who create this virus, called “The Tyrant Project.” Their plan was to use it to make South Korea more important globally. But then American agents catch wind of what they’re up to and demand the scientists hand over all the virus samples. Yikes!

Here’s where it gets really interesting – during the handoff between the Koreans and Americans, the bioweapon gets stolen! Now both countries and a covert ops team are racing against time to find the virus before something bad happens. With a weapon that dangerous in the wrong hands, this does NOT end well!

The cast of “The Tyrant” looks amazing too. Jo Yoon-su from “True Beauty” and “Juvenile Justice” leads as an assassin out for revenge. Veteran actor Cha Seoung-won, known for “Our Blues” and “A Korean Odyssey,” plays a cold-blooded mercenary.

Even bigger names like Kim Seon-ho from “Start-Up” and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” play the head scientist behind the secret project. Kim Kangwoo, who was in “Le Grand Chef” and “Goodbye Mr. Black,” portrays an American spy mixed up in everything.

Director Park Hoonjung, known for the hits “New World” and “The Witch,” helms this thriller. With their talent involved, you just know “The Tyrant” will be full of intense action and a story that keeps you totally hooked!

The four-episode series premieres August 14th on Disney+ globally. With a compact, fast-paced plot and huge stars, it looks like “The Tyrant” will be an exciting new addition to Disney+’s library of K-dramas this summer. Mark your calendars – this one is not to be missed!
