Elizabeth Gillies is best known for her roles in the popular TV shows “Victorious” and “Dynasty.” Now, she’s making the jump to movies with her new film “Spread” which comes out this Friday on Tubi. Not only does Elizabeth star in it, but she also helped produce it—which was a first for her.
I had the chance to chat with Elizabeth about “Spread” and how this project was different than anything she’s done before. She told me she was totally burned out after wrapping up “Dynasty” so when she read the funny script for “Spread,” she was super interested right away. The story follows Ruby, an uptight journalist who ends up working at an adult magazine. Ruby goes through some big changes over the course of the movie—and so does her style of dressing!
Elizabeth connected with the director Ellie Kanner and loved how the script, written by Buffy Charlet, was based on Buffy’s own experience working at Hustler magazine. Taking on the producer role gave Elizabeth a new perspective too, though it made her workload bigger. Even as just an actress, she said she was always thinking about how everyone else’s performance would look during editing.
One highlight for Elizabeth was working with the legendary actor Harvey Keitel. She called it a total learning experience and raved about how professional and talented he is. “Getting to act with him and hear his stories was a big reason I signed on for this movie,” she said.
When I asked if she prefers TV or movies, Elizabeth said she’s open to both but looks for roles that challenge her. “I love being on a movie set because you give it your all for a shorter time,” she explained. Elizabeth seems ready to keep evolving her career – so fans will want to check out “Spread” and see what she does next!
