You guys aren’t going to believe this, but “Inside Out 2” just became the highest grossing animated movie of all time! It passed up “Frozen 2” with an insane $1.462 billion made at theaters worldwide. To put that in perspective, that’s over a billion dollars!
The sequel has been a box office champion since it premiered six weeks ago. Domestically, it’s crossed $600 million and has stayed in the top three movies every week. Overseas, it’s raked in $861 million, and that number is going to keep climbing since it hasn’t even opened yet in Japan.
Here are some of the crazy records “Inside Out 2” now holds:
- It reached $1 billion globally faster than any other animated movie, doing it in just 19 days.
- For 2024 so far, it’s the highest grossing movie, period. No other film has made over $1 billion this year.
- Domestically and worldwide, it set new opening weekend records for animation, with $154 million and $292 million respectively.
- In several South American countries like Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and more, it became the top movie ever in those places.
Even Disney was shocked by how huge this movie became. Alan Bergman, who helps run Disney’s movie division said, “We knew it was special, but no one could have guessed it would shatter records like this.”
The success confirms that Disney still rules animation. They now own four of the five top animated films ever and nine of the top twelve.
It’s amazing “Inside Out 2” did so well since more people are streaming at home. But I guess animated movies are still a blast to see on the big screen with friends and family. As it keeps making money worldwide, the question is – how high up the all-time chart can it climb? Only time will tell if it gets even closer to being the top movie ever!
