Gotham’s Guardian Signs Off: Kevin Conroy’s Last Batman Performance Hits Screens

Iconic voice actor's posthumous performance in 'Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three' marks the end of a 30-year legacy

Kevin Conroy Final Batman performance

This week, Warner Bros. Animation released the final chapter in their animated Justice League trilogy, and it’s a real tear-jerker for Batman fans both old and new. “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three” marks legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy’s last time playing the Dark Knight – and man, does he go out with style.

Conroy has been the voice of Batman for over 30 years now, ever since the classic 1990s animated series. His gruff yet caring take on the Caped Crusader really defined the character for a whole generation. So getting to see and hear him back in action one last time is super nostalgic and emotional at the same time. Especially now that we know Conroy sadly passed away last year from cancer at only 66 years old.

What makes this send-off even better is that Conroy gets to reunite with his frequent co-star Mark Hamill, who of course lends his iconic voice to the Joker. Hamill has said this will be his final time voicing the Clown Prince of Crime as well, since he doesn’t want to do it without Conroy. Their dynamic as Batman and Joker is legendary, so it’s awesome they got to go out together on the big screen.

The movie itself follows the epic comic book storyline “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” It’s just as action-packed and trippy as you’d expect, bouncing between different worlds that are all falling apart. And Conroy shines in his big final scene up against Hamill’s Joker. With the universe crumbling around them, Batman vows to keep fighting for justice till the very end – and man, you can really hear the emotion in Conroy’s performance.

It’s such a fitting send-off for an actor who truly became Batman in many fans’ eyes. His portrayal is so iconic that it’ll probably influence the character for decades to come. So while it’s sad to say goodbye, “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three” is a great way to celebrate Conroy’s amazing legacy. I’m sure die-hard Bat-fans everywhere are giving it a watch this weekend!
