Elijah Wood, known for playing Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, says he’d totally be down to reprise his role in the upcoming movie The Hunt for Gollum. He got super excited talking about it at a film festival in Canada recently.
Wood said it would be “incredible” to return to the world of Middle-earth in New Zealand, where they filmed the original trilogy. That world and those movies mean so much to him. Getting to jump back into that beloved story would be awesome.
The Hunt for Gollum is based on one of Tolkien’s side stories and will follow Gandalf and Aragorn searching for Gollum, who knows important secrets about the One Ring. Even better, it’s bringing back tons of the original talent, like Peter Jackson as a producer and Andy Serkis both directing and playing Gollum again.
Other actors like Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) have hinted they’d be interested too if the story makes sense. The same writers who helped create the original films are writing the script. Fans were relieved to hear the original team will be involved.
Wood was previously worried the LotR franchise could become just about making money instead of art. But getting to reunite with everyone in New Zealand, where they filmed the magic of the first trilogy, could really recapture that. As more details emerge, fans can’t wait to return to Middle-earth with this highly anticipated prequel!
