Fans of the popular science fiction series Doctor Who have something new to look forward to. BBC Studios recently announced a new spin-off series called The War Between The Land and The Sea at San Diego Comic-Con. The show will explore conflicts within the Doctor Who universe while connecting to elements fans love.
The spin-off will bring back the Sea Devils, feared aquatics monsters that originally battled the Doctor in classic episodes. It will also feature UNIT, the international group that has assisted the Doctor on many occasions. UNIT will play a key role in the story. Specific plot details are still under wraps.
One character fans eagerly want to see return is Dr. Petronella Osgood. Osgood first appeared in the 50th anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor” and became a fan favorite. She brilliantly helped UNIT as a scientist, especially in situations involving the shape-shifting Zygons. Whether Osgood is human or Zygon herself has never been revealed. With the spin-off focusing on UNIT, some fans believe it’s the perfect chance to reintroduce Osgood.
Kate Stewart, head of UNIT played by Jemma Redgrave, will also take part. She worked closely with Osgood in the past, so Stewart’s involvement opens up possibilities for Osgood’s return. However, new characters now fill Osgood’s old scientific advisor role. This could complicate bringing her back full-time, though a cameo isn’t out of the question.
By blending classic monsters and characters fans know with new stories, the spin-off aims to honor Doctor Who’s rich history. Reincorporating the Sea Devils and UNIT shows the show doesn’t forget its origins. Fans look forward to finding out how these elements intersect in unexpected ways. Though questions remain, The War Between The Land and The Sea promises exciting new exploration of the Doctor Who universe beloved by many.
