Music artist and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams is collaborating with popular toy company Lego on two creative projects. At an event in Paris, Williams revealed plans for a new Lego set inspired by space exploration. Called “Over the Moon,” the intergalactic-themed build features customized astronaut mini-figures with diverse skin tones. Its goal is to make children feel represented when engaging their imagination.
Williams grew up admiring the stars and hoping to learn their secrets. He wants the Lego set to spark similar wonder in young fans all over the world. “Space was always fresh and left so many questions unanswered,” Williams explained. The set will be available later this month.
In addition, Williams is producing an animated biopic about his life and career called “Piece by Piece.” Made using Lego animation software, the film aims to tell Williams’ story in a unique and universal way. It incorporates interviews with many famous musicians who know Williams, including Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. However, the celebrities were unaware their voices would be connected to Lego characters to keep their recollections candid.
Williams says he likes how the animation style makes his experiences resonate with broader audiences. As an African American man from a marginalized community, Williams feels the Lego visuals help others relate to his story regardless of background. The movie has earned praise on the film festival circuit for its creativity.
Beyond entertainment, Williams and Lego will challenge children worldwide to use creative play through a global learning initiative. Williams continues to push boundaries across industries from music and fashion to film and toys. With these latest projects, he inspires fans of all ages to reach for the stars one Lego piece at a time.
