Johnny Depp’s new biographical drama “Modi” is set to close out the Rome Film Festival this Saturday. The film tells the story of famous Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani over three days. “Modi” has already received recognition for its depiction of Modigliani’s struggles in the art world. It won the Capri Cult Award for 2024 ahead of its screening in Rome.
The award ceremony for “Modi” will take place on Friday at a historic film studio in Rome. It will launch the 29th annual Capri Hollywood festival. Al Pacino and Rebecca Hall star in “Modi” alongside Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio. Producer Barry Navidi takes on a dual role in the film both behind and in front of the camera. He portrays art collector Maurice Gagnant.
An exclusive gala dinner on Friday will celebrate Italian cinema. Expected guests include Oscar-winning artists like Billie August and Dante Ferretti. Pascal Vicedomini founded the Capri Institute which presents the Cult Award. He said this timing is “a joy” as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of a famous Italian film studio. Vicedomini has worked to strengthen ties between Italian and American film industries through the Capri Hollywood festival.
The Capri Cult Award prepares for the main Capri Hollywood festival in December. Last year’s recipient was the film “Miranda’s Victim.” The award and festival receive support from the Italian Ministry of Culture and corporate sponsors. This underscores the growing partnership between filmmakers in Italy and the United States.
