Tom Holland Confirms ‘Spider-Man 4’ Production Set for Summer 2025

Star reveals script development underway as anticipation builds for next installment

Tom Holland provided an update on the highly anticipated fourth installment in his Spider-Man film series. In a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Holland said that production on the new movie will kick off in the summer of 2025.

The actor is enthusiastic to once again portray the role of Spider-Man. “Everything’s good to go — we’re nearly there,” Holland told Fallon. “It’s happening… super exciting. I can’t wait!”

Holland and his co-star Zendaya, who plays MJ, had a chance to review an early draft of the script together. While noting the screenplay “needs work,” Holland sounded confident in the writing team. He said reading it with Zendaya “really lit a fire in me.”

The pair discussed their initial reactions as they read through the developing story. According to Holland, there were times they “were bouncing around the living room” in response. This reaction suggests the actor believes “the story is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”

Behind the scenes, there may be a change in directors. Reports indicate Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is in talks to take over directing duties from Jon Watts. Watts directed the three previous Spider-Man films starring Holland.

During his appearance, Holland also reflected fondly on working with past Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” He described it as the “highlight of my career” and shared funny details about the elaborate secrecy around their roles. For instance, Maguire and Garfield would arrive on set wearing cloaks, almost like something out of “Star Wars,” to keep their appearances concealed.

Looking ahead, while rumors swirl about possible returns for Maguire and Garfield, there has been no official confirmation yet regarding their involvement in the fourth movie. Filming is still a couple years off, so more details will likely emerge closer to production.
