Apple TV+ has released the first images from Lucky, a limited series starring and executive produced by Anya Taylor-Joy. Based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel, the series follows a woman who left behind a life of crime but is forced to return to it in a final attempt to break free from her past.
The cast includes Drew Starkey, Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Timothy Olyphant. The series is produced in collaboration with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and co-showrun by Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas.
Production began in Las Vegas before shifting to Los Angeles, where Lucky secured a $10.6 million California tax credit as an untitled Apple Studios project. The effort to bring more productions to Los Angeles has gained momentum following the January wildfires.
The first images show Taylor-Joy and Starkey in a quiet moment against a city skyline, hinting at a layered connection between their characters. The series, described as a psychological crime drama, explores themes of survival and reinvention. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct several episodes, including the pilot.
Taylor-Joy, known for roles in The Queen’s Gambit, The Northman, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, continues to take on projects across multiple genres.
