Ellen Pompeo has made it clear that her youngest daughter, Sienna, won’t be watching Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actress shared her reasoning, citing concerns over age-appropriate content.

Pompeo, who starred as Dr. Meredith Grey for 19 seasons on the long-running medical drama, explained that while her 15-year-old daughter, Stella, has watched the show, she feels Sienna isn’t quite ready. “My 15-year-old has seen it. And now my 10-year-old wants to see it, which—she’s not ready,” Pompeo told Kimmel. “But a lot of kids in her class have seen it.”

One of her main concerns is how her on-screen appearances might be perceived by her daughter. “I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet,” she said, acknowledging that many of Sienna’s classmates have already watched the show. “That makes for great conversation at pick-up.”

Kimmel pointed out how Hollywood can be an unusual environment for children of actors, sharing an anecdote about Malcolm in the Middle star Bryan Cranston coaching a Little League team. Pompeo agreed but also noted the benefits of growing up in the industry. “These kids look all around them and they see a bunch of people whose dreams came true. And they believe that their dreams, too, can come true.”

Pompeo shares three children—Stella, Sienna, and six-year-old Eli—with husband Chris Ivery. She left Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular in 2023 after nearly two decades but continues to serve as an executive producer and narrator while making occasional guest appearances.

Outside of her Grey’s Anatomy legacy, Pompeo has been promoting her new Hulu series, Good American Family, which premieres on March 19.
