Jack Black returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend for his fourth time as host, performing a live musical number tied to his role in A Minecraft Movie and appearing in multiple sketches, including one in which he wore a costume resembling Indiana Jones.

Opening the episode, Black launched into a four-minute musical performance after joking in his monologue that he was too stressed to continue hosting. The song, linked to his work on the upcoming Warner Bros. film, featured a live marching band, falsetto vocals, and physical comedy, including a somersault on stage.

During the number, Black made his way into the audience, sang to a viewer seated in the upper rows, and greeted cast members on the way back to the stage. He intentionally mispronounced the names of Heidi Gardner and Marcello Hernandez, saying, “It’s been a while since I watched the show,” as part of the performance. He concluded the segment by shouting, “SNL’s 50, and I’m 55!”

Later in the program, Black appeared in a sketch called Love Match, a fictional game show hosted by Todd Bruff, played by Andrew Dismukes. Chloe Fineman portrayed Janey, a contestant choosing from three unseen suitors. Black appeared as “Gene,” seated in one of the mystery chairs, wearing a full costume with fedora, satchel, and whip.

When the host revealed that Gene was dressed as Indiana Jones, Black’s character claimed not to know the reference. “What is Indiana Jones?” he asked, adding, “Is Indiana Jones a brand, like Tommy Hilfiger?”

Bruff continued to press Gene about the outfit, pointing out the whip and the clear resemblance. Gene responded, “I’m sorry if it looks like Indiana Jones, whoever he may be.”

The sketch included additional responses from the other contestants. When asked what he looked for in a partner, Gene replied, “Maybe it’s time to figure out Gene. So I’m looking for a woman to go on that with me.” Janey called the answer “so refreshing,” though the host remained skeptical about Gene’s costume denial.

The segment ended with a new contestant arriving dressed as Jack Sparrow, prompting Bruff to express frustration with the direction of the show.

The episode featured musical performances by Elton John and Brandi Carlile.
