Michael Sarnoski has been chosen to write and direct the live-action adaptation of Death Stranding, the popular video game from Hideo Kojima. The film, set to be produced by A24 and Kojima Productions, will explore the world introduced in the 2019 game. Sarnoski, known for Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, takes the helm following the success of his previous projects.
The game’s story revolves around the “Death Stranding” event, which blurred the divide between life and death, unleashing supernatural entities into a fractured world. Players control Sam Porter Bridges, who is tasked with reconnecting isolated communities in a broken America.
This film adaptation was first announced in 2023 as part of A24’s move to expand into more mainstream properties. Death Stranding has a significant following, with the game’s all-star cast, including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux, drawing attention and generating anticipation for the upcoming film.
Sarnoski’s involvement follows several announcements from Kojima Productions, including the upcoming release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach in 2025.
