Tom Cruise will once again step into the role of Ethan Hunt for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, set to hit theaters on May 23. Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for the action-packed film, where Hunt faces his toughest challenge yet—a powerful AI known as the Entity.
In this installment, Hunt holds the key to stopping the Entity, but before he can act, he must track down a sunken Russian submarine containing the source code needed to dismantle the AI. The trailer showcases a series of thrilling moments, including high-octane stunts where Hunt grapples with a fighter jet, narrowly escapes a bombing at the Kremlin, and takes on a high-stakes mission involving a security briefing.
Christopher McQuarrie returns as director, collaborating with Erik Jendresen on the screenplay. This marks the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible series, with Cruise joined by Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon. A brief teaser released late last year revealed that Angela Bassett will reprise her role as Erika Sloane.
Speculation is rife that the film could debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Cruise is scheduled to be in London ahead of the event to receive a BFI Fellowship and participate in a Q&A. At CinemaCon, Cruise also shared exclusive footage and paid tribute to the late Val Kilmer, his Top Gun co-star.
