Each year, celebrities provide us with the most shocking scandals, which often make headlines for weeks or even months. At some point, however, these scandals are forgotten. Cheating scandal between Khloe Kardashian’s boyfriend and Jordyn Woods
Until the beginning of 2019, Jordyn Woods was likely only known to be true “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” fans. That all changed when Kylie Jenner’s BFF was allegedly caught at a party with Tristan Thompson, boyfriend of her half-sister Khloé. Not only was the cheating scandal the main topic of the reality show’s sixteenth season, but everyone involved also cannibalized the drama on social media and in the press.
Lindsay Lohan has to go to jail
Lindsay Lohan already conflicted with the law several times in the 2000s. This former teen star struggled with alcohol and drug problems for a long time. She was convicted in 2007 for drunk driving, possession of drugs and driving without a license, amongst other things. By 2010, she apparently had not yet learned from her mistakes: she repeatedly violated the terms of her probation. Initially, she had to wear an ankle bracelet that detected alcohol in her sweat and alerted authorities.
Later she was even sentenced to 90 days in jail. But due to overcrowded prisons and good behavior, they released her after only 13 days. However, Lohan seems to have regained her composure in the meantime. In 2018, she appeared alongside Rupert Grint in the British sitcom “Sick Note.” According to her own statements, she wants to make her acting comeback in Hollywood. We are excited!
Kristen Stewart cheats on Robert Pattinson
They were Hollywood’s dream couple par excellence: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson fell in love while filming the “Twilight” movies. In 2012 then came the shock for the fans. Stuart publicly admitted to having cheated on Pattinson with the “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders. Though Robert Pattinson forgave her for the misstep, the pair split for good a year later.
Abuse allegations against Cuba Gooding Jr.
Abuse allegations have also spread around Cuba Gooding Jr. 2019. The actor was arrested in June – firstly for sexual harassment and secondly for third-degree sexual abuse. Soon after the allegations, more women accused the movie star of crimes. After some were dropped, now Cuba faces six charges from three different plaintiffs. Himself, he still maintains his innocence.
Nude photos of Prince Harry emerged
Nowadays, Prince Harry is happily married and a family man. However, he was mainly known as a party prince before meeting Meghan. In 2012, this became his undoing at a strip poker game. For there, he apparently had to strip completely naked – while being photographed. In the pictures, which the British tabloid “The Sun” also printed, he only has his hand in front of his private parts.
Harry first spoke out about the embarrassing photos in 2014. “It was possibly a classic case of ‘too much army, not enough prince.’ It is as simple as that,” he told U.S. magazine Man of the World. Harry was serving in the British Army when the pictures were taken.
War of the Roses between Sylvie Meis and Rafael van der Vaart
On New Year’s Eve 2012/13, Sylvie van der Vaart (now Meis) posted a picture of herself, her husband Rafael and her best friend, Sabia Boulahrouz. Only one day later, however, they announced their separation. And it came even worse: A little later, it came out that Rafael and Sabia were now a couple and expecting a child together.
Following the ensuing shitstorm, Sabia, in turn, revealed that Sylvie had also cheated on Rafael several times. Unfortunately, the new woman at van der Vaart’s side lost the unborn child in the fifth month, and the couple separated in 2015.
Lady Gaga’s meat dress
Lady Gaga was always good for a scandal at the end of the 2000s and the beginning of the 2010s. In 2010, at the MTV Music Awards, Gaga topped her Kermit Coat from 2009 with a dress made of meat. Yeah, actual flesh. Thus, she probably still holds the number 1 spot for the most bizarre celebrity outfits.
Supposedly, Lady Gaga didn’t just want to shock with the outfit but also to spread a message: “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, soon we won’t have any more rights than the flesh on our bones,” she declared in the “Ellen DeGeneres Show”. The fans could have figured that out on their own.
Miley Cyrus shocks with a new image
Miley Cyrus was known mainly for her role as Hannah Montana for a long time. However, in 2013 Mylie decided to shed her well-behaved teen star image and shocked everyone with a new short hairstyle, free-spirited costumes and her legendary “Wrecking Ball” video.
Thereupon, scandalous appearances followed one after the other. Her sexy performance with “Blurred Lines” vocalist Robin Thicke in particular, made headlines for a long time.
Celebgate
A hacking scandal caused a stir in 2014, affecting Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence, amongst others. Hackers had gained targeted access to several Hollywood stars’ iCloud and Gmail accounts between November 2012 and September 2014 and published private and intimate photos. This hacking attack became known in the media as “Celebgate.” Meanwhile, five perpetrators have been convicted for it.
Solange Knowles attacks Jay-Z in the elevator
To this day, it remains one of the most curious celebrity scandals: In 2014, a video was leaked in which Jay-Z, Beyoncé, her sister Solange and a bodyguard climbed into an elevator together. All of a sudden, Solange attacks Jay-Z. The bodyguard has to tear her away from him. To date, neither party has commented on the background of the incident, and fans can only speculate what caused Solange to go berserk like that.
However, there is one thing that is clear: everything is good again between the two in the meantime. “Solange is like a sister to me. Not only my sister-in-law. My sister,” Jay-Z told US magazine Rap Gate.
The end of One Direction
In 2015, fans of the boy band One Direction had a tough year. First of all, in March, vocalist Zayn Malik announced that he was leaving the group. Then in August, the rest of the four band members also announced a one-year break starting in March 2016. The last album of the boy band was released in November 2015, as the reunion announced for 2017 has not yet happened.
Kim Kardashian publishes a phone recording of Kanye West and Taylor Swift
The permanent dispute between singer Taylor Swift and rapper Kanye West can not be missing in a compilation of the decade’s biggest scandals. It all began with arguably one of the biggest scandals of the 2000s. In 2009, when Taylor Swift was presented with an MTV Video Music Award for Best Video, Kanye stormed on stage and declared that Beyoncé deserved it more.
He apologized in 2015, but in 2016 the dispute escalated again when West released his song “Fame.” He says, “I think that Taylor and I might still have sex; I made that bitch famous.” Taylor Swift is shocked by this line, though, according to West, she agreed to the release. Then, back in July, Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, published a phone recording between Taylor and Kanye that allegedly proves that Taylor approves of the line. She, though, sees it differently – and the argument continues.
Faked assault of Jussie Smollett
Early in 2019, “Empire” cast member Jussie Smollett stated to police that he was attacked by two hooded men near his Chicago apartment at night. They reportedly called him not only racist but also homophobic names and outed themselves as Trump supporters. However, Jussie received sympathy from the public, revealing that he had staged the whole thing!
Due to the false statements to the police, the serial star was charged in February for disturbing the public peace. However, a conviction did not come since Jussie negotiated a controversial deal with the prosecution. In return, Jussie was suspended from “Empire” and was excluded from the production of the last two episodes of season 5.
Abuse allegations against R. Kelly
Also, singer R. Kelly provided in 2019 again with abuse headlines for a lot of excitement. Due to the docuseries “Surviving R.Kelly”, authorities became interested and made inquiries. In February, R. Kelly was charged with aggravated sexual abuse in several cases, which are said to have occurred between 1998 and 2010.
He said some of his alleged victims were minors at the time of the crimes. In May, July and August, he was charged with additional offenses, among others, for producing child pornography and sexual exploitation. Hence, prosecutors now accuse him of 13 felonies. He denies the charges, though.
“Brangelina” are separated
Their relationship began with a scandal and also ended like that. After Brad left Jennifer Aniston for his “Mr. & Mrs Smith” movie partner in 2005, eleven years later, it was also over between this Hollywood dream couple. And what followed was a war of the Roses with heavy accusations from both sides. The two quarreled both about money and about the six joint children. Only in 2019 was the divorce finally through.
Duchess Kate’s nurse commits suicide after a prank phone call
Sadly, Harry’s nude pictures in 2012 did not remain the only scandal surrounding the royals. Because the joy over Duchess Kate’s first pregnancy was overshadowed in December by a tragic incident. Two Australian radio presenters had allowed themselves a telephone prank while Kate was in the King Edward Hospital in London due to severe nausea.
They pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles and had a nurse connect them to the responsible ward. The hospital and especially the nurse in charge then received a lot of ridicule and scorn from the public. The nurse was found dead in her apartment three days later. She had committed suicide.
Avicii is found dead in his hotel room
One of the biggest musicians of the decade, Swedish DJ Avicii enjoyed worldwide success with songs like “Levels,” “Wake Me Up”, and “Hey Brother.” Then in April, the shock came in: 28-year-old Tim Bergling was found dead in a hotel room in Oman. However, According to his family, he suffered from an addiction to pills and severe depression. In 2019 his father confirmed that it was a suicide.
“Harry & Meghan: An African Journey”
Miley Cyrus is not the only one who makes it into this list twice. Even though Prince Harry has long since shed his party prince image, he and his wife Meghan were still often the subject of the British gossip press. The couple didn’t like that at all, as they admit openly in the documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey”.
Meghan talks openly about how badly she has felt due to the press hype in recent months. At the same time, Harry admits that he and his brother William are “currently on different paths.” Personal glimpses like this into the lives of the royals are unusual.
Lori Loughlin bribery scandal
Former “Full House” star Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli caused a real scandal in March 2019. Under investigation by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the pair allegedly paid $500,000 to get their two daughters accepted to the prestigious University of Southern California.
After they pleaded not guilty in April, the charge has since been expanded. Lori also lost several roles in ongoing television and film series due to her involvement in the case. She is not the only actress allegedly involved in the case, however.
Charlie Sheen flies out of “Two and a Half Men”
Just like Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen also struggled with drug and alcohol problems repeatedly. 2011 cost him his starring role as Charlie Harper in “Two and a Half Men.” After publicly insulting producer Chuck Lorre, Warner Bros. Television had enough of his outbursts and replaced Sheen with Ashton Kutcher. Charlie Harper died the death of the series. Charlie Sheen, however, shortly after landed the lead role in the series “Anger Management”, produced from 2012 to 2014.
Justin Bieber becomes a bad boy
Miley Cyrus wasn’t the only teen star to make an image change in 2013. Justin Bieber, too, apparently had enough of his milquetoast boy image. Perhaps his success had simply gone to his head.
Among other things, he is said to have attacked a photographer, trashed a hotel room and broken off a concert early for no reason in 2013. In the years that followed, he was repeatedly conspicuous for fights and insulting fans. In 2014 he was even arrested for taking part in an illegal car race while drunk.
Felicity Huffman bribery scandal
Felicity Huffman became known to a wide audience as Lynette Scavo in the “Desperate Housewives” hit series. However, she reached even more sensation long after the end of the series in September. That’s when the actress was sentenced to 14 days in jail, served 250 hours of community service and fined $30,000. How so? Because Felicity pleaded guilty in May to paying about $15,000 in bribes to retroactively boost her eldest daughter’s answers on a college admissions test.
Miley Cyrus’s marriage and her affairs
After 10 years of on-off relationship, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth married in December 2018. However, everything was already over again in 2019. Surprisingly, they announced their marriage end, and Miley directly put one more on it: She had fun with blogger Kaitlynn Carter only days later. Meanwhile, she was with musician Cody Simpson together. Among her fans, this jumpiness caused a lot of incomprehension.
Amber Heard separates from Johnny Depp and accuses him of violent outbursts
Many people had not even noticed that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were married, as the couple had already announced the separation. The accusations that Amber Heard made against Depp were quite serious. Thus, he is to have become violent toward her again and again.
However, once the divorce was settled out of court, Sheard withdrew the charges. After she wrote about her experiences with domestic violence in a guest article in the “Washington Post” in late 2018, Depp sued her again for defamation. So, the War of the Roses continued until the series of famous trial which at the end, Amber Heard was convicted and had to pay Johnny Depp a huge money for defamation.
Harvey Weinstein and the start of the #metoo debate
If we choose one scandal as the biggest of the decade, it would likely be the numerous allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment against film producer Harvey Weinstein. Although many of the incidents occurred much earlier, it was not until late 2017 that women went public with their stories.
Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman and Gwyneth Palthrow are just some well-known Hollywood actresses who made serious allegations. Following the allegations against Weinstein, more Hollywood celebrities, such as actor Kevin Spacey was also accused of sexual abuse. As the debate grew, the #metoo movement emerged and created more awareness of sexual harassment in the film industry and beyond.
