While the new generation of consoles has hit a component shortage making it difficult to produce tech devices, Sony keeps working to deliver the best experience with its PS5, and over the past few months we’ve seen firmware updates that add new features, enhance performance, and extend the capabilities of DualSense.
We are back once again to report on the changes introduced with the latest PS5 update, continuing to offer performance improvements while adding a feature for ALLM-compatible displays. The following are the features described by PlayStation.
Key features of this system software update
- When using a TV that supports ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode), you can modify the ALLM settings in [Settings] > [Display & Video] > [Video Output] > [ALLM].
- When you select [Automatic], your TV will automatically switch to low latency mode when you are playing a game.
- By selecting [Off], ALLM won’t be activated, unless during VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) output.
And finally, PlayStation’s notes also state that “this system software update will improve system performance,” which is now standard for PS5 patches.
Importantly, these updates finish fixing outstanding details of the device and manage to resolve serious system issues. An example of this is the so-called CBOMB, a dispute that prevented physical and digital games from running if the console’s battery ran out. Thankfully, one of the PS5 patches has put an end to this possible situation, which was present in previous generations.
