Back in January we were all surprised at Sony’s acquisition of Bungie, for a sum that was nothing short of insignificant when compared to Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax.
It was $3.6 billion that signaled a move made official only today, where Bungie becomes a full-fledged part of the PlayStation Studios family.
The creators of Halo and Destiny therefore can be fully operational not only in their own titles in development but in providing their know-how to other teams, expertise that would no doubt further leapfrog many Sony intellectual property.
However, Bungie’s takeover also fits fully with the new strategy outlined by Jim Ryan, namely that of creating at least ten live services by 2026.
As Destiny 2 is in the midst of its life cycle though probably in its second half, there is great curiosity to see what will boil over after this union of intent.
