The virtual reality industry, after many years of trying its luck with different approaches, has realized that the path to commercial positioning and success is through video games.

The Meta (formerly Facebook) VR event was held today, and it included a major announcement involving Xbox’s plans to bring gaming to as many gamers as possible.

The Meta Connect event not only talked about the plans for the Metaverse and virtual reality by Mark Zuckerberg’s company, but also had space to announce important alliances and that is where the collaboration between Meta Quest and Xbox was highlighted.

As presented, Xbox is to officially support Meta Quest 2 by making its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service and cloud gaming offerings accessible on the device through the Meta Quest Store platform.

As a result of this partnership, VR device users who have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which is the version that offers cloud gaming, can enjoy the service and will have access to the games that belong to its catalog.

It should be noted in this case that there won’t be an immersive and virtual reality experience as such, instead, what players get is a view similar to that of a TV screen and the games will be displayed there; simply linking an Xbox controller will be enough to do so.

While there is still no official launch window for the start of operations of this partnership, Microsoft promised full support for the virtual reality platform, which confirms that they have achieved a new frontier in their current strategy to deliver gaming to billions of gamers around the world.

As part of this event, Meta also announced the purchase of studios that will reinforce its offer of virtual reality titles.

In the case of Microsoft, their cloud gaming offer continues to rock, because since yesterday the “Play” button was included in all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate titles for PC via EDGE or the BING search engine, which means that you only need to click on the button and you can play right away as long as you are a subscriber and you have the connection speed that allows it.

Furthermore, it appears that an important announcement is right around the corner because in a recent stream, Phil Spencer revealed a small device in his cabinet that is said to be Keystone, a mini Xbox designed for the gaming service and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
