Another standout performance fans hope to see again is Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of the Green Goblin, also known as Norman Osborn. The seasoned actor has recently discussed the conditions under which he might consider reprising his role.
Marvel’s Multiverse Expands Possibilities
The concept of the Multiverse has opened up a world of possibilities in Marvel movies, allowing for connections between Sam Raimi’s original trilogy and other films in the franchise.
One of the most memorable characters from the Raimi trilogy is Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn and his evil alter ego, the Green Goblin.
According to a recent interview with Inverse, Dafoe seems open to revisiting the role, calling it “a great role” and expressing his enjoyment of playing a dual character.
Dafoe’s Conditions for Returning as Green Goblin
While it seems plausible that Dafoe could reprise his role as the Green Goblin, there are certain conditions that might prevent him from doing so.
The actor has previously stated that he enjoyed performing the more physically demanding aspects of the character. In 2021, he shared his reservations about returning to the role, insisting on being involved in the action scenes rather than just making a cameo or appearing for close-ups.
Dafoe told director Jon Watts and producer Amy Pascal, “Listen, I don’t want to just appear there as a cameo or just to fill in close-ups. I want to do the action because it’s fun for me.”
The Green Goblin remains one of Spider-Man’s most formidable adversaries, and it’s difficult to imagine anyone other than Willem Dafoe in the role.
Dafoe has made it clear that he is willing to return as Spider-Man’s nemesis, provided he can continue to perform the action scenes.
With many Marvel universes still left to explore, there could be new opportunities for the Green Goblin and other iconic villains to make a comeback.
