Capcom Hits Record Year with Remake Successes

The Japanese publisher achieves a new milestone in game sales, largely owing to recent releases in the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil franchises.

Japanese publisher Capcom recently announced that it experienced the most lucrative period in its history in terms of profit and game sales. Over the last fiscal year, which concluded on March 31, players purchased a record-breaking 41.7 million copies of Capcom games.

This figure is a significant increase from the previous year, when the company sold 32.6 million games. Revenue reached $935 million, a 14.4% year-over-year increase, while net profit amounted to $273 million, marking a 12.9% year-over-year growth.

Key Titles Driving Success

Several notable releases contributed to Capcom’s outstanding performance:

Capcom Fighting Collection

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Moreover, Capcom reported strong sales for older games during the last fiscal year, including Monster Hunter Rise (3.7 million), Resident Evil 2 remakes (2.25 million), and Resident Evil 3 (1.95 million). Interestingly, digital purchases accounted for a staggering 90% of total sales.

Six Consecutive Years of Capcom’s Prosperity

Capcom, one of the oldest and most esteemed publishers in the gaming industry, has now recorded record-breaking profits for six consecutive years. This impressive streak follows a challenging period between 2000 and 2010 when many of its projects fell short of both player and critic expectations.

Recently, Capcom has shifted its focus towards revitalizing and enhancing its key franchises, resulting in well-received titles such as Resident Evil 7 and Village, RE remakes, Monster Hunter World and Rise, and Devil May Cry 5.

Capcom’s Ambitious Plans for the Future

Capcom plans to maintain its successful streak and set new records this year. In June, the highly anticipated sixth installment of Street Fighter is set to be released, with Capcom aiming to sell 10 million copies.

Additionally, Exoprimal, a new action game set in a prehistoric world teeming with dinosaurs, will debut in July. Capcom is also developing sequels to popular hits like Monster Hunter World and Dragon’s Dogma, further reinforcing its commitment to delivering exceptional gaming experiences.
