Guerrilla Games has mentioned the development of a third Horizon game multiple times in the past, and they’ve chosen their 20th anniversary to reiterate their commitment to the franchise.
Guerrilla Games’ 20th Anniversary and Studio History
On May 9, Studio Director Jan-Bart van Beek celebrated Guerrilla Games’ 20th anniversary by reflecting on the studio’s history on the PlayStation Blog.
The studio first gained widespread recognition with the release of Killzone in 2004 and later solidified its reputation with the highly successful PlayStation exclusive, Horizon Forbidden West, which sold an impressive 8.4 million copies.
Van Beek concluded his retrospective with a glimpse into the future, reconfirming Aloy’s return in a brand-new adventure.
He wrote, “Lastly, I want to share with you that we are incredibly excited about the continuation of Aloy’s adventures. Her most recent mission took her to the ruins of Los Angeles in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, and we can’t wait for you to discover where she goes next.”
Horizon 3: A New Adventure for Aloy
Although the development of Horizon 3 (a working title) may have seemed inevitable given the series’ success, it’s reassuring to receive another confirmation from the Studio Director.
Van Beek’s statement also provides the assurance that Aloy, the red-haired heroine, will venture into unexplored territories following her journey through the Forbidden West.
Rumors of a Horizon Multiplayer Spin-off
In addition to the news about Horizon 3, there have been rumors suggesting that Guerrilla Games is also working on a multiplayer spin-off of the Horizon franchise. Fans of the series will be eager to learn more about both projects as further information becomes available.
