Elden Ring Expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ Smoothly Underway, Says Kadokawa

Amidst Speculation, 'Shadow of the Erdtree' Promises More 'Elden Ring' Adventures.

The gaming community has been eagerly awaiting news on the development of “Elden Ring’s” first expansion, “Shadow of the Erdtree.” FromSoftware, the game’s developer, has kept details under wraps, but a recent financial report from its parent company, Kadokawa Corp, has shed some light on the situation. According to the report, the development of the DLC is “proceeding smoothly,” despite the lack of public updates from FromSoftware.

“Shadow of the Erdtree” was announced in February with only a piece of concept art released, which has led to rampant speculation among fans about potential plot points and game mechanics.

Theories range from time travel to dream realms, and the involvement of Demigod Miquella, a character from the main game. This expansion follows the free Coliseum update that introduced PvP arenas and modes to “Elden Ring.”

In addition to the DLC, FromSoftware has signaled growth by announcing a hiring spree for “multiple new projects.” Kadokawa’s report also hints at plans to “expand the scope of FromSoftware’s own publishing” by the fiscal year 2027, suggesting a shift in how future titles may be released.

The report also touched on the sales of “Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon,” which has sold over 700k copies in Japan as of September 30. The global sales are expected to increase in the second half of the year, supported by a strong Steam launch.

While details on “Shadow of the Erdtree” remain scarce, the financial report provides a reassuring sign that fans can look forward to more content from the “Elden Ring” universe.
