Starfield’s Shattered Space Expansion Explodes onto Scene This Fall

In Addition to Highly-Anticipated Story Content, Free Ship-Building Update Launching Soon

Bethesda has officially set a release window for Starfield’s debut story expansion Shattered Space, promising to propel the sprawling sci-fi RPG’s narrative into uncharted territory beginning this fall. The news comes courtesy of studio director Todd Howard himself, who revealed new details about Shattered Space and other imminent Starfield content updates.

In an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Howard confirmed fans can expect the highly-anticipated Shattered Space expansion to blast off sometime in Fall 2024. While light on specifics, the premium DLC is expected to deliver a meaty infusion of new story quests, locations, gear, and other gameplay content building upon Starfield’s core experience.

Many have speculated Shattered Space could delve deeper into the enigmatic saga of the House Va’ruun faction, whose narrative threads throughout the base game seemed ripe for further exploration. However, Bethesda has yet to formally unveil plot points or just how extensive the expansion might be compared to something like Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC or its recent sci-fi TV adaptation Fallout.

But Shattered Space won’t be the only injection of fresh Starfield material coming soon. In the same interview, Howard teased that a separate game update focused on ship-building and outfitting enhancements is nearing its final approach. The free patch is already in beta testing on PC via Steam’s public channels.

Among the new quality-of-life perks included will be desperately needed maps for New Atlantis’ labyrinthine city districts, easing navigation around its dense commercial sectors. This overdue tweak should provide some much-needed convenience and improved traversal.

Howard also reassured the community that Bethesda remains committed to comprehensively supporting Starfield’s creation tools and modding ecosystem. While no firm timeline was provided, more details about the game’s anticipated Creation Kit and its rollout to user creators are expected to be shared in the near future.

With Shattered Space locked in for fall and the ship-crafting update preparing for an imminent deployment, Starfield seems poised to continue expanding its ambitious vision of interstellar exploration and adventure. Having already captivated millions worldwide, these upcoming content injections should provide ample new reasons to return to the cosmos and experience everything the hit IP’s universe has to offer.
