Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo Unveils Nibelheim and Beyond

Immerse Yourself in the Legacy and Innovation of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5.

Square Enix has delighted fans worldwide by releasing a free demo of “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” on PlayStation 5, providing a firsthand glimpse into the much-anticipated second installment of the remake of the iconic 1997 game. This unveiling occurred during a special State of Play stream dedicated to the game, offering a dual-part demo that promises to immerse players deeply in the game’s rich narrative and expansive world.

The first part of the demo, available immediately, encompasses nearly the entire first chapter of “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” It revisits the Nibelheim incident, a pivotal flashback sequence from the original game, casting players in the roles of the protagonist Cloud and the enigmatic antagonist Sephiroth.

This section not only serves as an excellent entry point for newcomers to the “Final Fantasy 7” saga but also offers veterans a dramatic reenactment of one of the game’s most memorable moments.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The forthcoming second part of the demo, slated for release ahead of the game’s launch on February 29, will expand the gameplay experience to include combat and exploration in a more open environment.

Set in and around Junon, including a climactic boss battle in the fishing village of Under Junon, this segment allows players to assemble a party from characters including Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and Red XIII. This will enable players to explore character dynamics and combat synergies while engaging in monster hunts and a boss confrontation, showcasing the depth and versatility of the game’s combat system.

A Preview of Expansive Adventures

During the State of Play, Square Enix also offered insights into “Rebirth’s” structure and the inclusion of side quests and minigames, which are expected to enrich the main narrative with their unique blend of surreal humor and engaging content. This expanded universe promises to deliver a vibrant and detailed adventure, setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of the “Final Fantasy 7” world.

Polygon’s hands-on experience with the opening hours of “Rebirth” further highlighted the game’s ambitious scope. Following the intense Nibelheim flashback, the game transitions to the serene town of Kalm, where Cloud and his companions find respite.

This segment introduces players to the game’s interactive elements, such as conversing with NPCs and engaging in the collectible card game Queen’s Blood, hinting at the depth and interactivity players can expect from the full game. The preview culminated in an exhilarating escape from a Shinra raid, leading into open-world exploration that mirrors the expansive gameplay teased in the Junon demo section.

While the demo offers a substantial preview of “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” it’s noteworthy that progress from the demo will not carry over to the full game upon its release. This decision ensures that players will have a fresh start when they embark on the complete journey in the reimagined world of “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.”
